It's On...

Now that the major parties have nominated their candidates and chosen their running mates, it is more clear than ever that true change can only be ushered in by the spindly legend himself: 24. I am using this seldomly (if ever) read blog site to push Rick Barry into the politcal arena and officially begin my "24 for President" write-in campaign.

Why Rick? Why now? It just makes sense.

Rick is one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time. He is the only player to lead the NCAA, ABA and NBA in scoring. He revolutionized the "granny shot" from the free throw line. He displayed his leadership skills by heading up a couple of organizations - the Cedar Rapids Sharpshooters among them - in various minor-league hoops leagues.

And while his genius on the court is unquestioned, he has also had overwhelming success in the broadcast booth. Never afraid to stir the pot - as opposed to some former-NBA-players-turned-broadcasters who prefer to smoke the pot - Rick has shown the ability to defend the difficult position and an uncanny ability to always be right. Whether ruminating about team tennis or shining some light on the intricacies of shamelessly promoting one's self for a headcoaching job in the NBA, he is always on-message.

Not to mention the fact that he is as effective using the left as he is the right. That's when dribbling or shooting, of course, but it makes sense this skill would also help him in reaching across the aisle to bring this nation together.

All I ask is that you take the time to thoughtfully consider a write-in for Rick. I can understand those who are skeptical. It will take time for you to warm to the idea of the slender sharpshooter in the short shorts holding court in the Oval Office. But if you really care about this country and want a commander in chief that is not afraid to shoot underhand if it's more effective, you need to return to this blog often.

This is the time. This is the moment. God bless America!
